Sun Apr 27 13:40:33 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh CPI(M) Demands Central Funding for Amaravati Capital Construction**

VIJAYAWADA, April 27, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] in Andhra Pradesh has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi commit substantial funds to the construction of Amaravati as the state capital during his upcoming May 2nd visit. In an open letter released Sunday, the party criticized the BJP-led NDA government for failing to meet its financial obligations outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014.

The CPI(M) points out that while the Act mandates central funding for crucial infrastructure like the Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, and Assembly, only ₹1,500 crore has been allocated, far short of the state’s requests for ₹60,000 crore. Party members expressed concern that the Prime Minister’s visit may be a symbolic gesture rather than a concrete commitment of funds, echoing public skepticism.

CPI(M) leaders Y. Venkateswara Rao and Ch. Babu Rao highlighted that the initial ₹1 lakh crore plan for Amaravati’s construction, announced by former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is now heavily reliant on state loans due to insufficient central funding. The state government’s plan to secure ₹31,000 crore in loans from institutions like the World Bank and HUDCO further underscores the shortfall in central contribution, they said.

In addition to the funding demand, the CPI(M) condemned Deputy Speaker K. Raghurama Krishna Raju for alleged inappropriate remarks against the party and his role in the demolition of 900 houses in Undi constituency, resulting in displacement of poor families. They called for an end to such demolitions and demanded justice for the affected families. The party also urged the TDP to ensure responsible conduct from its leaders.
