Sun Apr 27 17:54:14 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Residents Face Postal Service Disruptions Amidst Garbage Concerns at Perungalathur Station

**CHENNAI, April 27, 2025** – Residents of Adyar, Chennai, are facing significant inconvenience due to the closure of two local post offices. The Kasturba Nagar post office closed several years ago, forcing residents to travel to the Shastri Nagar post office. However, that office also recently shut down, leaving residents reliant on the single remaining Adyar post office. This situation disproportionately affects senior citizens who rely on the post office for pension services. A postal department official stated that the Shastri Nagar closure is temporary, due to ongoing construction of a new building. A temporary counter has been established at the Adyar post office, and services are expected to resume at Shastri Nagar upon completion. Meanwhile, residents are suggesting that unused space at the MRTS Kasturba Nagar and Indira Nagar stations could be utilized to open a new post office.

Separately, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of cleanliness at Perungalathur railway station. Commuters are discarding food waste and plastic litter on the platforms, creating a sanitation problem. While railway officials have the authority to issue fines for littering, this measure is not currently being enforced.
