Sun Apr 27 11:11:25 UTC 2025: ## Godavari River Fishing & Tourism Activities Now Require Permits
**RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM, April 27, 2025** – Authorities in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, have implemented new regulations requiring all boats operating on the Godavari River for fishing or tourism to obtain permits from the Department of Ports. This measure, announced following a recent drowning incident, aims to increase vigilance and prevent unauthorized access to river islands.
The decision comes after two individuals drowned near Pushkar ghat while using a fishing boat for recreational purposes. Access to the islands, primarily inhabited by migrants from Yanam (Pondicherry), is banned for recreational activities.
East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi and Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore emphasized the need for stricter monitoring of boat activity. Mr. Narasimha Kishore clarified that fishing boats will not be permitted for tourism, and all boats must specify their purpose when applying for permits.
A meeting is scheduled for April 29th at Kovvur ghat to inform boat operators about the new regulations and the permit application process. The East Godavari District Fisheries Officer, T. Nirmala Kumari, urged all operators to attend.
