**Guwahati, Assam –** Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that at least 14 people have been arrested for making what he termed “seditious comments” following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir. The arrests, conducted over the past two days, target individuals accused of expressing pro-Pakistan sentiments on social media.

Mr. Sarma stated that the crackdown will continue, warning that those deemed anti-national will face prosecution under the National Security Act (NSA). He emphasized the animosity between India and Pakistan, declaring them “enemy nations.” Among those arrested is a leader of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti. The arrests follow a Tuesday attack in Pahalgam, which killed at least 26 people, predominantly tourists. The Chief Minister shared updates of the ongoing arrests on X (formerly Twitter), specifying locations including Cachar, Hailakandi, Nagaon, and Sribhumi districts. The arrests include opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, apprehended on Thursday. Mr. Sarma has vowed to take a strong stance against those perceived as pro-Pakistan or pro-Bangladesh in the state.
