MYSURU, Karnataka – April 27, 2025 – A makeshift spectator gallery collapsed at a floodlit kabaddi tournament in Mallanayakanakatte village, Mandya district, resulting in one death and 13 injuries, including three children. The incident occurred Saturday night.

Papannachari, approximately 50 years old, was identified as the deceased. The injured are receiving treatment at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS). Among the injured is Papannachari’s daughter.

Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, also in charge of Mandya district, stated that while organizers had police permission, the gallery proved insufficient for the crowd. He assured free medical treatment for all injured and promised to investigate government compensation for Papannachari’s family. The Minister visited the MIMS mortuary to pay his respects.

Local MLA Darshan Puttannaiah also visited the hospital to check on the injured. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy called the incident “unfortunate,” and expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. Former Minister C.S.
