**VIZIANAGARAM, Andhra Pradesh –** Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal announced a crackdown on public alcohol consumption, utilizing drone surveillance to identify offenders. In a press statement released on April 27, 2025, Jindal revealed that over 15,000 petty cases were filed against individuals consuming alcohol in public places such as parks and fields since July 2024. Offenders were released after paying fines.

The initiative, which saw a significant increase in cases filed between July 2024 and April 2025, aims to deter public drinking and prevent escalation to more serious drug use. The police department hopes the use of drones will act as a visible deterrent, reducing instances of public intoxication and related crimes like street fights and drunk driving.

In addition to the anti-public drinking campaign, the police department is also working to improve road safety by requesting the National Highway Authority of India install speed breakers along national highway access roads.
