Sun Apr 27 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Severe Storms Threaten Minnesota and Wisconsin Monday: Tornado Risk High
**MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) –** A significant severe weather threat looms over Minnesota and Wisconsin on Monday, prompting warnings from the National Weather Service. The risk level is classified as “moderate,” a level four out of five, indicating a high likelihood of widespread severe weather, including multiple tornadoes and numerous severe thunderstorms. This is the highest risk for the region since April 8, 2011.
Two rounds of storms are expected. The first will hit northern and central Minnesota in the morning, bringing the potential for large hail. This activity is expected to clear by late morning. However, a second, more dangerous round will develop in the afternoon and evening as a cold front sweeps across the state.
The Twin Cities and areas to the south and east are particularly at risk during this second wave. These storms have the potential to rapidly intensify, producing large hail, damaging winds, and strong tornadoes.
FOX 9 meteorologist Jennifer McDermed urges residents to develop a severe weather safety plan, including ways to receive warnings, identifying safe shelter locations, and establishing communication plans with family and friends. The station will continue to provide updates throughout the weekend.
