**Kolkata, April 26:** Heavy rain brought a premature end to the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens on Saturday. The match, the 44th of the tournament, was abandoned after Punjab completed their innings, leaving KKR to rue a missed opportunity.

Punjab Kings, who had posted a strong 201/4, saw Priyansh Arya (69 off 35) and Prabhsimran Singh (83 off 49) power their way to a dominant start. The pair put on a 120-run opening stand, punctuated by impressive hitting. While other Punjab batsmen struggled, Shreyas Iyer contributed a useful 25. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora took 2 wickets, while Varun and Andre Russell picked up one each.

Kolkata, after a promising start to their chase, were thwarted by the downpour which made any resumption impossible, despite the cut-off time being 11:44 PM. The abandonment resulted in a points split, giving both teams a single point.

The washout deals a significant blow to KKR’s playoff hopes. Currently seventh in the points table with seven points and a net run rate of +0.212, they need to win their remaining five matches to secure a playoff berth without depending on other teams’ results. Their next match is against Delhi Capitals on April 29th. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have solidified their position in the top 4, pushing Mumbai Indians down to fifth place.
