VISAKHAPATNAM, April 27, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to elevate King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam to a Centre of Excellence, modeled after AIIMS, Delhi. The announcement came during the inauguration of the Andhra Medical College (AMC)’s Centenary Alumni Building, a ₹50 crore facility built by alumni contributions.

Mr. Naidu highlighted KGH’s century-long service and directed the Health Department to create a plan ensuring its continued success for the next 100 years. He also lauded the AMC alumni for their significant fundraising efforts, noting the building’s construction was a testament to their dedication. An additional ₹20 crore will fund a new biomedical research laboratory at AMC.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of Information Technology in education and reiterated Visakhapatnam’s projected growth, citing upcoming infrastructure projects and major investments from tech giants. He also predicted the region’s potential to become India’s largest steel-producing hub.

Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the health sector, while AMC alumni and local officials requested an increase in postgraduate seats at the college. The event was attended by several state officials and dignitaries.
