Sat Apr 26 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## CBS’s FBI Franchise Gets a CIA Makeover: New Series Starring Tom Ellis to Debut in 2025

**Los Angeles, CA** – CBS is shaking up its popular FBI franchise. While the network prepares to bid farewell to *FBI: International* and *FBI: Most Wanted* after their respective final seasons, a brand-new spin-off is set to join the original *FBI* in the 2025-2026 television season.

The network has greenlit *CIA*, a straight-to-series drama starring Tom Ellis (Lucifer). Originally conceived as *FBI: CIA* and planned as a planted spin-off from *FBI*, the new series will now stand alone, foregoing the planned introduction of characters within the parent show.

*CIA* will follow two unlikely partners: a rebellious CIA case officer portrayed by Ellis, and a rule-following FBI agent. Forced to collaborate at the CIA’s New York Station, their contrasting styles will be the key to solving complex cases threatening US national security.

The series hails from Dick Wolf and will be showrun by David Hudgins. Executive producers include Wolf, Hudgins, Nicole Perlman, David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski.

*FBI* star Zeeko Zaki previously expressed excitement about the expansion of the franchise, stating his hope for the continued growth of the shared universe.

The announcement comes as CBS prepares to end *FBI: International* and *FBI: Most Wanted* after four and six seasons, respectively. *CIA* will join other planned spin-offs, *Sheriff Country* (from *Fire Country*) and *Boston Blue* (from *Blue Bloods*) in the 2025-2026 fall lineup.
