Sun Apr 27 04:30:00 UTC 2025: ## BRS Maintains National Ambitions Despite Telangana Focus, Says KTR
**Hyderabad, India** – Ahead of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) silver jubilee celebrations in Warangal on April 27th, working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) reaffirmed the party’s commitment to both Telangana and its national aspirations. Dismissing claims that the party lost relevance after rebranding from TRS to BRS, KTR highlighted the party’s 37% vote share in the recent Assembly elections. He acknowledged setbacks in achieving national dominance but insisted the party hasn’t abandoned its broader ambitions, stating that pursuing power in Telangana and expanding nationally will occur concurrently. KCR, the party chief, will reportedly deliver a key message on this strategy at the Warangal meeting.
KTR positioned the Congress, not the BJP, as the BRS’s main rival in Telangana. He downplayed the BJP’s influence, attributing its parliamentary election success to factors including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national appeal, noting that all eight BJP MPs who won in the Lok Sabha elections had lost their respective Assembly seats. This assessment informed the BRS’s decision to focus on the Congress in upcoming local body elections, including those for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). KTR argued that the public perceives BRS as fighting against Congress’s “anti-people” policies.
He further emphasized the BRS’s increased popularity over the past 18 months, citing its role in supporting public causes like land acquisition disputes and infrastructure projects. KTR defended the party’s absence from recent MLC elections, citing various factors including a lack of sufficient local body representation in some contests.
Finally, KTR criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s performance, suggesting a lack of public confidence in his leadership. While expressing personal reservations, he left the door open for BRS MLAs who defected to the Congress to potentially return.
