**KOCHI, April 26, 2025** – Construction is set to begin soon on a new five-story commercial complex in Kakkanad, Kochi, designed to address the growing needs of Ernakulam district’s administrative center. The “Kakkanad Commercial Complex 2.0” will replace the existing, 50-year-old structure, which has become inadequate.
The project, unveiled at a review meeting attended by the District Collector, GCDA officials, and local council members, will encompass 18,000 sq. ft. The basement will be dedicated to parking, featuring separate entry and exit points. The upper floors will house shops, businesses, a meeting hall, and office space. Temporary relocation will be provided for businesses affected by the construction.
The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is leading the project, which includes ample parking to accommodate increased traffic. GCDA Chairman K. Chandran Pillai, District Panchayat President Manoj Moothedan, and Municipal Councillor A.A. Ibrahim Kutty were among the officials present at the unveiling.
