Fri Apr 25 17:15:50 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Faces Starvation as UN Food Stocks Deplete Amid Israeli Blockade
**Gaza City, Palestine** – The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of a catastrophic food shortage in Gaza, with its food reserves completely depleted after eight weeks of an Israeli blockade. Over 400,000 people, reliant on WFP aid, face starvation as local kitchens are expected to run out of food in the coming days.
The blockade, defying a World Court order, has prevented all aid, including food, medicine, and fuel, from entering Gaza since March 2nd. Prices of remaining food have skyrocketed by 1400%, while food stockpiled during a previous ceasefire has been exhausted. The WFP’s Palestine representative, Antoine Renard, described the situation as dire, stating that both local NGOs and families are running out of supplies.
Reports from Gaza City indicate widespread hunger and malnutrition. The Gaza Government Media Office claims 52 people, including 50 children, have already died from hunger and malnutrition, with over one million children facing daily hunger. Al Jazeera reports widespread rationing and growing desperation among the population.
Despite international condemnation, Israel shows no sign of easing the blockade. Defense Minister Israel Katz justified the continued blockade as a tactic to pressure Hamas, despite accusations of exploiting aid being denied by the group. Germany, France, and the UK have called the blockade “intolerable,” warning of escalating risks of starvation and disease.
The humanitarian crisis continues amidst ongoing Israeli attacks, with at least 78 deaths reported in the past 24 hours. Efforts to revive stalled ceasefire talks in Cairo continue, focusing on a potential long-term truce contingent upon the release of captives and a disarmament agreement, which Hamas has rejected. The conflict, which began in October 2023, has already claimed over 51,439 lives and left hundreds of thousands displaced. The deepening food crisis threatens to exacerbate the already devastating human cost of the conflict.
