Sat Apr 26 13:11:47 UTC 2025: ## Uganda Declares End to Ebola Outbreak After Three Months

**Kampala, Uganda** – Uganda has officially declared the end of its latest Ebola outbreak, the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday. The outbreak, caused by the Sudan strain of the virus, began on January 30th with the death of a male nurse. A total of 14 cases were reported, including 12 confirmed and two probable cases, resulting in four deaths. Ten individuals recovered from the infection.

The World Health Organization (WHO) praised the Ugandan Ministry of Health for its swift and effective response. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus lauded the government and health workers for their “leadership and commitment.” The declaration comes 42 days after the last patient was discharged, meeting the criteria for declaring an end to the outbreak.

This was Uganda’s ninth Ebola outbreak since 2000. The country’s proximity to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has experienced numerous Ebola outbreaks, contributes to its vulnerability. However, health experts attribute the relatively quick containment of this outbreak to Uganda’s accumulated experience in managing the disease. The Sudan strain of Ebola, for which there is no approved vaccine, presented significant challenges, but effective public health measures ultimately proved successful.
