**New Delhi, India** – Widespread protests and demonstrations are sweeping across India following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Anger is particularly strong in Himachal Pradesh, where markets remained closed for a fourth consecutive day on Friday. In Bilaspur, ex-servicemen took to the streets, staging a rally and vowing to return to Jammu and Kashmir if necessary. The Muslim community in Bilaspur also protested, burning effigies of Pakistan and demanding an end to terrorism.
The attack has significantly impacted the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. Registrations have plummeted, with only 13 new registrations in Udhampur in four days.
India has taken strong action against Pakistan and the terrorists, prompting anxiety in Islamabad. US President Donald Trump commented on the escalating tensions, suggesting the two countries will resolve the issue themselves.
Meanwhile, security forces are conducting a major operation against suspected local terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. The army demolished the house of a Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist in Pulwama, following the demolition of two other suspected terrorists’ homes in Anantnag.
In other news, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student union elections concluded peacefully with approximately 70% voter turnout. President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Pope Francis in Vatican City, attending his funeral as part of a two-day visit to represent India, which declared three days of national mourning.
