Sat Apr 26 14:12:12 UTC 2025: ## Four Dead in Tamil Nadu Firecracker Explosion

**Salem, Tamil Nadu –** Four people, including two minors, died in a firecracker explosion in Poosaripatti, Tamil Nadu, on Friday evening. The incident occurred when two young men, carrying firecrackers to celebrate a local temple festival, experienced an accidental explosion of their stockpile. Three died at the scene, while a fourth succumbed to injuries at Salem Government Hospital.

The explosion injured six people in total. Two bystanders also sustained injuries and received treatment at Salem Government Hospital. The deceased were identified as S. Tamilselvan (11), S. Karthi (11), Selvaraj (29), and T. Logesh (20).

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed condolences and announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for each bereaved family. Tourism Minister R. Rajendran visited the hospital, delivered the solatium, and added an additional ₹2 lakh from the DMK party to each family. He also instructed police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Deevattipatti Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosives Act. The bodies of the victims were cremated after post-mortem examinations. The explosion prompted calls from villagers for stronger action against those handling firecrackers irresponsibly.
