Sat Apr 26 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Braces for Thunderstorms, Relief from Heatwave Expected Soon

**Kolkata, April 25** – West Bengal is expected to experience a significant change in weather conditions starting this weekend, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the state, beginning Saturday.

South Bengal, including Kolkata, is likely to see thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching 50-60 km/h in some areas. North Bengal will also experience rainfall and gusty winds.

The IMD predicts light to moderate rain in several South Bengal districts, including 24 Parganas (North & South), West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Birbhum, Bankura, Murshidabad, and Nadia, on April 26th. West Midnapore, Jhargram, Birbhum, and Murshidabad may experience wind gusts up to 40-50 km/h.

From Sunday to Thursday, widespread thunderstorms are anticipated across South Bengal, potentially bringing another round of strong winds. Similar conditions are also expected in North Bengal until May 1st.

While Kolkata and other South Bengal districts will experience uncomfortable heat until April 26th, with heatwave conditions possible in some areas, the IMD anticipates a 3-5 degree Celsius drop in maximum temperatures over the following three days. North Bengal’s Malda and Dinajpur districts will see a similar temperature decrease after two days of unchanged conditions.

For Friday, Kolkata’s maximum temperature is forecast to be near 36°C and the minimum around 29°C, with relative humidity between 61% and 87%.
