**VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA –** Andhra University (AU) launched a year-long centenary celebration on Saturday, highlighting the institution’s significant role in shaping education in the Telugu-speaking region since its founding in 1926. The event featured the unveiling of a vision document and celebratory calendar, along with a walkathon and balloon launch.
APSCHE Chairman K. Madhu Murthy emphasized the growing importance of quantum technology and urged students to acquire future-oriented skills, stating AU provides an ideal platform for this development. The celebration also included the felicitation of 97-year-old Prof. Santhamma, a retired AU physics professor and grandaunt of U.S. Vice-President JD Vance’s wife.
Vice-Chancellor G.P. Raja Sekhar outlined plans for the centenary, including infrastructure upgrades, a new central laboratory, and community outreach programs, funded through alumni contributions and corporate social responsibility initiatives. The construction of an iconic tower commemorating AU’s heritage is also planned.
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat expressed pride in AU’s achievements and voiced optimism for its future milestones. The event showcased performances by international students, underscoring AU’s global reach. The centenary celebrations aim to enhance educational standards and strengthen AU’s community engagement.
