Fri Apr 25 12:23:49 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Hockey Team Barred from Azlan Shah Cup Over Unpaid Dues
**Ipoh, Malaysia –** Pakistan’s national hockey team will not be participating in this year’s Azlan Shah Cup, scheduled for November 22-29 in Ipoh, due to outstanding debts owed by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). The Malaysian Hockey Federation has confirmed it did not extend an invitation to Pakistan following a USD 10,349 debt incurred by PHF officials during the Johar Hockey Cup in October 2023.
The unpaid dues cover accommodation, travel, and other expenses for PHF officials and their families who accompanied the team to Malaysia. While the team’s expenses were covered by the organizers, PHF officials, including the former president, were responsible for their own costs, which included stays at a luxury hotel. The Johar Hockey Association, which organized the October event, has sent a formal demand for payment to the PHF and threatened to escalate the matter to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) if the debt remains unpaid.
The current PHF president reportedly faces a significant challenge in settling the debt, as the federation is already facing financial difficulties and was unaware of the expenses incurred by the previous administration. The absence of Pakistan, a regular competitor in the Azlan Shah Cup, marks a significant development in the tournament.
