**NEW DELHI, April 26, 2025** – Pakistan has called for an international investigation into the April 22nd Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, according to a report in the New York Times. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated his country’s willingness to cooperate fully with any such probe.
India alleges Pakistani involvement in the attack, a claim Islamabad denies. Following the incident, both nations have implemented retaliatory measures. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, while Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian airlines.
Mr. Asif criticized India’s actions, stating that the suspension of the water treaty was a pretext used for domestic political purposes and an act of punishment without evidence or investigation. He expressed concern about the escalating tensions and the potential for regional disaster.
The Resistance Front (TRF), designated a front for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Mr. Asif disputed this, asserting that LeT is defunct and incapable of launching attacks from Pakistan-administered Kashmir. He claimed that remaining LeT members are either under house arrest or in custody.
The escalating situation highlights the deep-seated tensions between India and Pakistan, with the Pahalgam attack serving as the latest flashpoint in their long-standing conflict.
