**Mumbai, April 26, 2025** – Odisha, a mineral-rich state in eastern India, is aiming for a massive expansion of its steel production capacity. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans to more than triple the state’s steel output from 41 million tonnes to 130 million tonnes by 2030. This ambitious goal, he stated at the Steel India 2025 event in Mumbai, would represent approximately 50% of India’s total steel production.
To achieve this, Odisha plans to auction 22 mines to attract further investment and focus on developing downstream steel processing industries. The state aims to become one of India’s top five industrial states through these initiatives. Mr. Majhi highlighted that Odisha has already received investment proposals worth ₹17 lakh crore (approximately $205 billion USD) following the “Utkarsh Odisha” business conclave in January, with a significant portion earmarked for the steel sector. He also emphasized the introduction of a new, streamlined industrial policy offering attractive financial incentives. Mr. Majhi expressed confidence that Odisha will lead India in the steel sector and become a major economic force.
