Sat Apr 26 05:51:52 UTC 2025: ## Bihar Cabinet Approves Major Subsidy, Airport Studies, and Development Projects

**Patna, Bihar –** The Bihar cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved a significant ₹15,995 crore power subsidy for consumers during 2025-26. The subsidy, under the “Mukhya Mantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayta Yojana,” will be directly disbursed to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) via the Reserve Bank of India and reflected in monthly bills.

Furthering infrastructure development, the cabinet greenlit pre-feasibility studies for commercial flight operations from six towns: Madhubani, Birpur, Munger, Valmikinagar, Bhagalpur, and Saharsa. The Airport Authority of India will conduct these studies, costing ₹2.43 crore, to assess passenger potential, runway requirements, and aircraft suitability.

In preparation for the 7th Khelo India Youth Games, slated for May 4-15 in Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai, the cabinet allocated ₹119 crore. Around 10,000 athletes and staff will participate in 27 disciplines, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the event.

A significant religious tourism project also received approval: the construction of a grand temple at Punauradham, Sita’s birthplace, using the same design consultant as the Ayodhya Ram temple. The project will utilize existing and planned land acquisitions totaling 67 acres.

The cabinet also approved the creation of 526 new posts (422 teaching, 104 non-teaching) for proposed degree colleges and 663 non-technical posts for urban engineering organizations. An additional 244 posts were sanctioned for the Bihar Sports University. Finally, amendments to land exchange rules will allow farmers to formally exchange land previously transferred informally.
