Sat Apr 26 15:23:01 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore MLA Seeks Railway Upgrades to Boost Connectivity
**Coimbatore, India (April 26, 2025)** – Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has called on Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to significantly upgrade Coimbatore Junction’s infrastructure and train connectivity. Citing the station’s third-place ranking in revenue generation within the Southern Railway zone, Ms. Srinivasan highlighted the inadequacy of the current two pit lines. She advocated for the development of two new stations – Coimbatore North and Podanur – equipped with modern facilities.
The MLA also urged the Railway Board to approve the extension of the Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur train (56801) to Coimbatore via Palani, Pollachi, and Kinathukadavu. Further, she proposed extending the Coimbatore-Pollachi Express (56113) service to Madurai to improve passenger connectivity.
Specifically addressing Coimbatore North, redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, Ms. Srinivasan stressed the need for two island platforms with accompanying maintenance facilities. She also suggested relocating the Goods Shed from Coimbatore North to a Railway-owned site in Irugur.
