**Bengaluru, April 26, 2025** – Dr. K. Kasturirangan, the fifth chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), passed away in Bengaluru on April 25th at the age of 84. His death follows a week of declining health.

Dr. Kasturirangan, a renowned space scientist and Padma Vibhushan awardee, began his career as an X-ray astronomer and rose through the ranks to lead ISRO from 1994 to 2003. He also served as the Secretary, Department of Space for over nine years. His contributions extended beyond ISRO, encompassing roles in shaping the National Education Policy 2020, serving as a Rajya Sabha Member (2003-2009), and chairing the Karnataka Knowledge Commission. His decades-long career saw him involved in several pivotal space missions. His legacy includes significant achievements in science, technology, and education.
