**Cairo, April 24, 2025** – An Israeli airstrike on a police station in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, has killed at least 44 Palestinians, including 10 at the police station itself and at least 34 others in separate strikes across the enclave. The Israeli military claims the strike targeted a Hamas and Islamic Jihad command center, alleging the groups use civilian areas for military purposes. This claim is denied by Palestinian factions.
The attack on the police station, located near a market, injured dozens more. The Durra Children’s Hospital in Gaza City was also hit, rendering it non-operational after damage to its intensive care unit and solar power system, though there were no reported fatalities in that incident.
The escalating violence follows the collapse of a January ceasefire on March 18th. Gaza’s health system, already devastated by an 18-month Israeli military campaign launched in response to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, is further crippled. Since the ceasefire collapse, over 1,900 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks, according to Gaza health authorities, and hundreds of thousands displaced. The October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel resulted in 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages taken to Gaza. Over 51,300 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli offensive, according to health officials.
Mediation efforts by Qatar and Egypt, with US backing, have yet to achieve a breakthrough in the conflict.
