**SRINAGAR, INDIA** – Indian soldiers have demolished the homes of two men suspected of carrying out a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing 26 civilians – the deadliest such assault in nearly two decades. The attack, which occurred Tuesday in Pahalgam, has prompted a massive manhunt and a controversial response from authorities.
Police have identified the suspects as members of The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Pakistan denies any involvement. Wanted posters featuring Adil Hussain Thokar, a suspected Kashmiri rebel, and two Pakistani nationals, Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa, have been released. Authorities are also searching for Ashif Sheikh.
Following the attack, the homes of Thokar and Sheikh were destroyed by security forces. Sheikh’s sister, Yasmeena, described the demolition as a sudden and violent event, stating that soldiers used explosives to raze the family home while it was empty. Similar actions were taken against Thokar’s family home. Family members of both suspects were also detained for questioning.
A police officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the demolitions and stated that both suspects had been active for several years and were involved in previous attacks. A reward of two million rupees ($23,500) has been offered for information leading to the arrest of each suspect. The incident has sparked outrage among human rights groups who are condemning the demolitions as a severe violation of human rights.
