The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 23 states over the next five days. The alert warns of thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall, with potential hailstorms and wind speeds reaching 50-60 kilometers per hour. The IMD attributes this to an active western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over northeast India. The eastern parts of India are expected to experience another round of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and strong winds from April 26th to 29th.

In addition to the rain alert, the IMD has issued an orange alert for a heatwave affecting several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, with temperatures exceeding 42°C. The agency predicts a further temperature increase of 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days in northern, eastern, and central India.
