**NEW DELHI** – A severe heatwave is gripping large swathes of India, with temperatures soaring to 45 degrees Celsius in some areas and many regions experiencing uncomfortable “warm nights.” The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Delhi, starting today, April 25th, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 42°C and a low of 23°C. The alert extends to April 26th, after which some relief is anticipated.

According to Skymet Weather, the heatwave is expected to impact several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada. Several regions in Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal are also predicted to experience warm nights.

While much of the country grapples with intense heat, some regions will see relief in the form of rainfall. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to experience light to moderate rain, with heavy downpours in some areas. Similar weather is predicted for Sikkim and other parts of Northeast India, along with thunderstorms and strong winds. Light to moderate rain is also anticipated in Kerala, parts of Karnataka, and South Tamil Nadu. The Western Himalayan region is expected to receive light to moderate rain over the next 48 hours.
