Fri Apr 25 16:51:12 UTC 2025: ## India Expels Pakistani Nationals, Suspends Indus Waters Treaty After Terror Attack

**New Delhi, April 26, 2025** – India has ordered the expulsion of thousands of Pakistani nationals following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. The government revoked 14 categories of visas, including business, tourist, and pilgrim visas, giving Pakistani citizens until April 27th to leave the country. Long-term, diplomatic, and official visas are exempt.

The decision, announced Friday, followed a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting and subsequent calls by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to all Chief Ministers and a video conference with state chief secretaries to ensure compliance. No new visas will be issued to Pakistani nationals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to pursue the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack “to the ends of the earth,” promising that terrorism would not go unpunished. An all-party meeting expressed unanimous support for decisive action against terrorism and terrorist camps.

In a further escalation, India also announced the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, citing Pakistan’s violation of its terms due to sustained cross-border terrorism. Water Resources Secretary Debashree Mukherjee formally notified her Pakistani counterpart of the decision. The move underscores the severity of India’s response to the attack and its frustration with Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorism. A photo from Amritsar showed an Indian woman and her Pakistani son prevented from crossing the Attari-Wagah border.
