Fri Apr 25 19:00:05 UTC 2025: **Chennai Police Bust Real Estate Land Grab Scam**
CHENNAI, April 26, 2025 – Four real estate brokers have been arrested by the Avadi City Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) for allegedly defrauding multiple buyers through a land grab scheme. The brokers, identified as Kamaraj alias Ruban (59), L. Seenivasan (55), Mohammed Siddiq (46), and Mohammed Ali Jinna (49), are accused of forging documents to sell government poramboke land (government-owned land) in Ponneri, Tiruvallur district, as private property.
The scam came to light after a complaint filed in January by D. Anita, who, along with her relatives, purchased 9,000 sq ft of the land for ₹54.48 lakh. The brokers, operating under the name ‘Good Luck Real Estate,’ presented forged documents and claimed ownership via a power of attorney. It was only when one buyer attempted to resell their portion that the land’s poramboke status was revealed.
Police investigations revealed the brokers created fake layouts and used forged seals and documents to sell the 1.47-acre plot. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are possible. The incident serves as a stark warning to potential buyers to thoroughly verify land ownership documents before making any purchase.
