Fri Apr 25 13:48:30 UTC 2025: **Eubank Jr. Fined £375,000 for Missing Weight Limit in Benn Bout**
LONDON – Chris Eubank Jr. will pay a hefty price for exceeding the weight limit ahead of his highly anticipated fight against Conor Benn. The British boxer was fined £375,000 ($500,000) after weighing in 14 grams over the 72.57kg (160lb) limit for Saturday’s middleweight bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While Benn weighed in within the limit at 71kg (156.4lb), Eubank’s second attempt at weighing-in, conducted behind closed doors, revealed him to be 72.597kg (160.05lb).
This substantial fine adds to the £100,000 ($133,000) Eubank Jr. already owes the British Boxing Board of Control for an earlier egg-throwing incident involving Benn. The fight, a long-awaited clash between the sons of boxing legends Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, was initially cancelled in 2022 due to Benn testing positive for clomifene. The World Boxing Council later cleared Benn, attributing the positive test to high egg consumption.
Despite the weight issue and the considerable financial penalty, the fight is still scheduled to proceed. A rehydration clause, limiting weight gain between Friday’s weigh-in and Saturday morning’s check, is in place. The pair appeared together at a press conference Thursday, where Eubank Jr. discussed personal struggles, including the death of his brother and a strained relationship with his father. Eubank Sr. has publicly criticized his son’s behavior, calling the fight a “circus” and his son a “disgrace.”
