**TIRUCHI, April 26, 2025** – The annual Chithirai Ther festival at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam reached its peak on Saturday with the spectacular pulling of the temple car by thousands of devotees. The event, also known as Virupan Thirunal, is the highlight of the 11-day festival which began on April 18th and concludes on April 28th.
Devotees gathered early Saturday morning to witness the processional deity, Sri Namperumal, being placed on the elaborately decorated car. The procession began around 6:30 a.m., winding through the temple’s Chithirai streets. Prior to the event, the Srirangam temple received traditional honours, including garlands and sacred cloth, from the Sri Andal Temple in Srivilliputhur. The festival will conclude with the Aalum Pallakku ceremony on April 28th.
