Sat Apr 26 12:44:54 UTC 2025: **Thuraiyur Seeks Independent Police Sub-Division to Address Growing Needs**
TIRUCHI, April 26, 2025 – A long-standing proposal for a separate police sub-division in Thuraiyur, Tamil Nadu, is gaining traction due to the region’s increasing population and complex geography. Currently under the jurisdiction of the overburdened Musiri sub-division, Thuraiyur’s vast area, encompassing remote hilly regions like Pachamalai and bordering multiple districts, poses significant policing challenges.
The proposed sub-division would consolidate Thuraiyur, Uppiliyapuram, and Pulivalam police stations under a single authority. This restructuring would also facilitate the upgrade of the Erakudi police outpost to a full station and the creation of new outposts in crucial areas like Pachamalai and Puliyancholai. The remote Pachamalai hills currently lack adequate police presence, with response times exceeding an hour in emergencies.
Residents and activists cite significant difficulties in accessing law enforcement services, especially for women who must travel over 40km to reach the nearest All Women Police Station in Musiri. The proposal addresses these concerns by potentially establishing a new AWPS within Thuraiyur.
Road safety activist N. Saravanan highlighted the challenges faced by villages like Vellakalpatti and Abinimanagalam, currently under the distant Pulivalam station. He emphasized that the proposed sub-division would drastically improve accessibility and responsiveness of law enforcement.
The proposal, currently under review by the State government, is being actively pursued by the Tiruchi police department. Its approval would significantly enhance policing and public safety in the Thuraiyur region.
