**New Delhi, April 26, 2025** – The Delhi government announced a significant investment in upgrading its fire services. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, during a visit to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) headquarters, revealed the allocation of ₹125 crore for new equipment and infrastructure improvements. This funding is part of a larger ₹500 crore commitment to the department outlined in the Delhi budget 2025-26.
The investment will include the purchase of four aerial water towers, 17 water bowsers, and 24 quick response vehicles. Furthermore, the government plans to construct new fire stations in underserved areas and rebuild the DFS headquarters, a project being overseen by Home Minister Ashish Sood.
To enhance response times, especially in densely populated and difficult-to-access areas, 100 new fire tenders have been strategically deployed. The government also aims to establish 100 permanent stations for smaller fire vehicles to improve fire relief and accident response in these areas.
Addressing high-rise safety, Mr. Sood stated that thorough elevator inspections are underway, and plans are in place to acquire equipment capable of reaching heights up to 90 meters. The modernization also includes a complete overhaul of the fire control room, transforming it into a fully computerized, state-of-the-art facility. Finally, advanced training programs are planned to prepare firefighters for high-risk operations.
