Sat Apr 26 18:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Seahawks Could Trade Sam Howell Just One Year After Acquisition

**Seattle, WA** – Just a year after acquiring him from the Washington Commanders, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Howell is reportedly on the trade block. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Seahawks, already busy revamping their quarterback room this offseason, are considering trading Howell.

The Seahawks’ offseason moves have seemingly sealed Howell’s fate. After trading starting quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and signing free agents Sam Darnold and Drew Lock, the team’s depth chart leaves little room for Howell. The possibility of drafting another quarterback further diminishes Howell’s chances in Seattle.

The move would be a surprising turn for Howell, who the Seahawks’ general manager John Schneider previously spoke of as a potential future starter. Howell’s limited playing time last season – five of 14 passes for 24 yards, one interception, and four sacks – didn’t impress enough to secure his position. With one year remaining on his affordable rookie contract, a trade appears increasingly likely. Should a trade materialize this weekend, it would mark only the third quarterback drafted by Schneider during his time with the Seahawks. The irony is not lost on many, considering some Washington fans previously advocated for the Commanders to build around Howell.
