Sat Apr 26 09:28:27 UTC 2025: ## Drone Strike Kills 11 at Sudanese Displacement Camp, Power Station Hit Again
**Al-Damer, Sudan –** At least 11 people were killed and 23 injured, including several children, in a suspected drone attack on a displacement camp in River Nile state, Sudan, on Friday. The attack, blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, also targeted a nearby power station for the fourth time since the start of the Sudanese civil war two years ago.
Witnesses described a horrific scene, with multiple drones striking the camp housing approximately 180 families who had fled fighting in Khartoum. One witness, Haleema, recounted the loss of multiple family members, including young children. Another survivor, Mawaheb Mohamed, described the chaos and devastation following the attack.
The governor of River Nile state confirmed the attack and the power station outage, highlighting the ongoing targeting of vital infrastructure. The RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”), denies responsibility for the drone attacks. However, the group has been repeatedly accused of targeting power infrastructure in army-controlled areas.
The attack further exacerbates Sudan’s already dire humanitarian crisis. Millions are suffering from widespread power outages due to ongoing attacks on the power grid, adding to the immense challenges faced by those displaced by the two-year-long conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF. The United Nations estimates that over 12.4 million people have been displaced within Sudan, with 3.3 million fleeing to neighboring countries. The conflict, which began in April 2023, continues to rage, particularly in the Darfur region.
