**Bhopal, India** – Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive a temporary reprieve from the intense heatwave gripping the state over the next four days. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for thunderstorms and light rain across the state due to a developing trough.

Saturday is expected to bring rainfall to 19 districts, including Gwalior and Jabalpur. Heavy thunderstorms and rain lashed several cities in Narmadapuram district Saturday morning. The Met department predicts rain in Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Sheopur, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Sagar, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Jabalpur, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori, and Anuppur. Senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran forecasts light rain and thunderstorms for the next four days, with the possibility of heat waves in some areas.

Temperatures soared across the state on Friday, with Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district recording the highest temperature at 44.6°C. Eleven cities recorded temperatures exceeding 43°C for the first time this season, including Khajuraho, Shivpuri, Damoh, Gwalior, Naugaon, Satna, Tikamgarh, Ratlam, Guna, Mandla, and Narsinghpur. Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur also experienced high temperatures, ranging from 40°C to 41.5°C. Pachmarhi remained the coolest at 36.2°C.

The Met Department also analyzed weather data for the past 10 years in major cities such as Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior. The data revealed that temperatures in Bhopal and Indore have reached 43°C, while Jabalpur recorded temperatures exceeding 44°C, and Gwalior even crossed 45°C. The department noted a trend of increasing temperatures in April, particularly in the latter half of the month. Historical data for these cities shows a pattern of both high temperatures and rainfall in April.
