**Madhubani, Bihar:** Madhubani district is experiencing a severe heatwave with no relief expected before April 27th, according to the weather observatory at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa. This extreme heat is causing a sharp increase in heatstroke, dehydration, fever, and skin diseases at Madhubani Sadar Hospital. Hospital officials report that 20-25% of OPD patients are suffering from these heat-related ailments. On Friday alone, the hospital treated 40 cases of dehydration, 55 cases of fever, and 35 skin-related illnesses.
Doctors warn of the increased risk of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) during this period. They advise against outdoor exposure during peak hours and emphasize the importance of staying hydrated. Dr. RK Singh highlighted diarrhea, fatigue, heatstroke, and food poisoning as common summer ailments. Dr. Kunal Shankar stressed the dangers of heatstroke, advising citizens to avoid midday sun exposure.
Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, the in-charge superintendent of Sadar Hospital, raised concerns about food poisoning, which is prevalent during the summer months due to easily contaminated food and water. He urged people to carry their own drinking water and avoid street food.
Dr. D.S. Mishra warned of the risk of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), particularly affecting children aged 1-15 years. He stressed the importance of ensuring children eat before bed, are awakened in the morning, and receive immediate medical attention if symptoms appear, emphasizing the motto: “Feed, Wake, and Hospitalize.”
