Fri Apr 25 15:54:44 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Govt. Opens Sandbar at Muthalapozhy Harbour to Relieve Fishermen
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 25, 2025** – The Kerala State government has taken emergency action to alleviate the plight of fishermen in Muthalapozhy, cutting open a sandbar that had blocked the harbour channel. The accumulated sand had trapped fishing vessels and hampered their operations, prompting protests from fishermen and opposition groups.
Following a meeting of ministers, four excavators, dredgers, and tippers were deployed, augmented by additional equipment from Kannur, to swiftly remove the obstruction. The government anticipates that water from five nearby panchayats will drain into the sea within two days.
This action is crucial as the state prepares to launch a ₹177-crore project for the development of the Muthalapozhy fishing harbour, a project already approved by the Union government. Tender procedures for this project are underway.
