**Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, India – April 25, 2025** – A Revenue Assistant in the Puliyagudi municipality, Ahmed Umar, was arrested on Friday for accepting a ₹15,000 bribe. The arrest was made by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing (DVAC) police following a complaint from a resident, A. Kalirajan.
Kalirajan had applied for property tax fixation for his newly built house. Umar allegedly demanded a ₹20,000 bribe to process the application, a necessary step for obtaining a drinking water connection. After negotiations, the bribe was reduced to ₹15,000.
The DVAC police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Paul Sudhar, apprehended Umar while receiving the bribe. A search of his office was conducted to gather evidence.
DSP Sudhar urged the public to report instances of bribery to the DVAC, assuring confidentiality for whistleblowers. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption within the Indian government.
