**COIMBATORE, April 25, 2025** – The Coimbatore District Police have issued a landmark protection order against a repeat sexual offender, marking the first such order in the district under the recently amended Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Abdul Rasak, 48, of Mettupalayam, was issued the order after being arrested in March for repeatedly harassing a 19-year-old woman. Investigations revealed a previous case against him at the Mettupalayam Railway Police Station for harassing the same victim. Rasak was remanded to judicial custody.

The protection order, issued by the Coimbatore North Revenue Divisional Officer, prohibits Rasak from contacting the victim through any means for one year. Violation of the order carries a potential sentence of up to three years imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh. The order was issued under Clause 7C of the amended Act, which allows for such measures if an offense under specific sections of the Act or the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita is deemed to have occurred.

Police officials stated this is only the second successful implementation of this provision statewide, highlighting the significance of the order in protecting victims of sexual harassment. The move underscores the Coimbatore police’s commitment to utilizing the strengthened legal framework to combat sexual offenses and ensure the safety of victims.
