Thu Apr 24 19:43:49 UTC 2025: ## JNU Students’ Union Elections Heat Up Amidst Heated Debate

**New Delhi, April 25, 2025** – The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus was abuzz with political activity Wednesday night as 13 candidates vying for the JNUSU president’s post clashed in a heated debate. The event, a mandatory part of the election process, began with a tribute to victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

Candidates debated key issues including the Hathras and Bilkis Bano rape cases, minority reservations, and infrastructure improvements. This year’s election features a divided United Left, with the Congress-backed NSUI and the ABVP—whose candidate, Shikha Swaraj, criticized the fractured opposition—emerging as key contenders.

The debate saw significant disruptions, particularly during Left-Ambedkarite Unity Panel candidate Tayyaba Ahmed’s speech, which drew strong backlash for its criticism of the RSS, the parent organization of the ABVP. Election Committee chairperson Vikash warned of a pause if the audience did not calm down.

Polling for the JNUSU elections is scheduled for Friday, with results expected on April 28th.
