Fri Apr 25 13:31:35 UTC 2025: **Karnataka Government Cracks Down on Illegal Land Developments, Announces Title Deed Distribution**

Bengaluru, April 25, 2025 – The Karnataka government launched a crackdown on illegal residential layouts being developed on agricultural land, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced Friday. The Minister warned developers that the state would seize illegally developed properties, citing a Supreme Court ruling. Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to halt such developments.

The announcement comes as the Congress government prepares to celebrate its two-year anniversary on May 20th with a mega event in Hosapete. To coincide with the celebration, the government will distribute title deeds to 100,000 families residing in tandas (hamlets) across the state. This initiative builds on a 2017 law granting Revenue village status to tandas and hattis, and aims to provide legal protection to 200,000 families by year’s end. The government is implementing digital title deeds to prevent document loss.

In other news, the government is also digitizing land records under the Bhoo Suraksha program, with 18.28 crore pages scanned to date. All A and B category land documents in taluk offices are expected to be digitized by December 2025. The public is encouraged to submit applications online.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for 17 Praja Soudhas (public service centers) in the Kalyana Karnataka region on May 5th and inaugurate the Zilla Soudha (district administrative building) in Mangaluru on May 16th.
