**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, April 25, 2025** – Tiruchi Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko has secured approval for a detailed project report (DPR) for a road overbridge at a busy level crossing in Tiruverumbur. The overbridge will replace the level crossing gate at Melakumaresapuram, located between Solagampatti and Tiruverumbur on the Tiruchi-Thanjavur broad gauge section. The decision follows a recent meeting with Southern Railway authorities, where Mr. Vaiko highlighted several railway-related concerns for his constituency.
The Southern Railway cited a high train volume (127,325 Train Vehicle Units in July 2024) as justification for the project. While a DPR is underway for the Melakumaresapuram overbridge, the feasibility of a similar project at another congested level crossing in Inamkulathur is still being explored. This second location, on the Tiruchi-Dindigul broad gauge section, registered an even higher train volume (162,208 TVUs in April 2024).
Mr. Vaiko also requested a halt for the Chennai Egmore-Tiruchi-Chennai Egmore Cholan Superfast Express at Tiruverumbur station. The railway authorities responded that this request has been forwarded to the Railway Board in New Delhi for consideration.
