**Raichur, Karnataka, April 25, 2025** – Deputy Commissioner Nitish K. has initiated a comprehensive plan to improve and conserve several key heritage sites in Raichur. Following an inspection on April 22nd, he ordered the development of proposals to enhance the Mecca Darwaza, the hilltop fort, and the Nizam-era khas bavi.
The plan includes infrastructure upgrades such as improved lighting, benches, and safety railings at the hilltop fort to boost tourism. The silted moat surrounding the fort will be dredged and restored, while scattered stone structures will be repaired. The historic Mecca Darwaza will also receive attention, with a focus on enhancing basic amenities and preserving the site. The khas bavi, a well used by the royal family, will be cleaned and restored.
Officials from the Raichur City Corporation, the Urban Development Cell, and the Mysuru Department of Archaeology, Museums, and Heritage have been tasked with preparing detailed proposals for these improvements, ensuring they adhere to heritage preservation regulations. The project reflects a commitment to preserving Raichur’s rich historical legacy and promoting tourism in the region.
