The 75-year-old, who served as president from 1990 to 1992, was sentenced in 2023 to eight years and ten months in prison for receiving $3.5 million in bribes between 2010 and 2014 while serving as a senator. The bribes facilitated contracts between a construction company and a former Petrobras subsidiary.

While a court source clarified that arrests cannot be made at night, Collor de Mello’s defense team stated he will comply with the order. The decision will be submitted to a full Supreme Court vote on Friday. Collor de Mello’s defense expressed “surprise and concern” over the ruling.
