Fri Apr 25 16:07:37 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Allocates Funds for Irrigation Improvements
**Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu – April 25, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu state government has earmarked ₹6.50 crore for desilting the Big Tank in Ramanathapuram district, officials announced Friday at a farmers’ grievance meeting. An additional ₹5.50 crore will be used to clear vegetation and encroachments along a 71km stretch of the Vaigai riverbed.
District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon presided over the meeting, addressing various farmer concerns. Key issues raised included crop damage caused by wild boars and deer, the impact of solar panel installation on agricultural land, and delayed compensation for crop losses from December 2024’s unseasonal rains. Farmers also highlighted the lack of basic amenities at the Yettivayal regulated market, including the distance to the nearest bus stop. The Collector promised an inspection of the market and pledged to address the bus stop issue. The government’s investment in irrigation infrastructure aims to improve agricultural productivity in the region.
