Thu Apr 24 06:31:47 UTC 2025: ## U.S. Issues “Do Not Travel” Advisory for Jammu and Kashmir Following Deadly Terror Attack

**NEW DELHI, April 24, 2025** – The United States has issued a “Do Not Travel” advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, citing the risk of terrorist attacks and potential civil unrest following a deadly attack in Pahalgam. The advisory, issued on Wednesday, comes one day after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam killed 26 people, mostly tourists – the deadliest attack in the Kashmir Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The U.S. State Department warns of sporadic violence throughout the region, particularly along the Line of Control (LOC) and in tourist areas such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam. The advisory urges U.S. citizens to avoid areas within 10 kilometers of the India-Pakistan border due to the risk of armed conflict. The advisory exempts the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh.

In response to the attack, which India alleges has cross-border links, the Indian government announced the suspension of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty and a downgrading of diplomatic ties with Pakistan, including the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches. An all-party meeting is scheduled for today to discuss the attack. Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership is also scheduled to meet to formulate a response.
