Thu Apr 24 14:06:48 UTC 2025: ## Seven Students Die by Suicide Following Telangana Exam Results
**Hyderabad, April 24, 2025** – Seven students in Telangana have died by suicide in the 24 hours following the release of the Intermediate (10+2) examination results on April 22nd. The victims, aged 16-17, hailed from various districts including Hyderabad, Bhongir, Peddapalli, and Mancherial. Causes cited range from failing multiple subjects to disappointment over perceived poor performance, even in cases where students had passed. One student who aspired to attend IIT reportedly took her own life after feeling her results weren’t good enough. Another expressed suicidal thoughts on Instagram before ending her life.
Police reports indicate that the deaths occurred in diverse settings, from family homes to individual residences. In one instance, a student who passed the exam still died by suicide due to dissatisfaction with her marks.
Hyderabad-based psychologist Spandana Reddy attributed the tragedy to intense academic pressure and the societal emphasis on high scores. She stated, “Children are conditioned to seek validation through high scores; anything less than 80% is treated as failure. This must change.” Reddy urged parents and educators to prioritize students’ emotional well-being, fostering open dialogue about alternative career paths.
