**NEW DELHI, April 24, 2025** – The Supreme Court intervened Thursday in the Mundra drug haul case after the children of accused Harpreet Singh Talwar were allegedly bullied at school following the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) claims that proceeds from the drug operation funded Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist activities.
Talwar’s lawyers argued that the NIA’s allegations, made during a bail hearing, caused the children to be targeted and called “terrorist’s children,” forcing them to withdraw from school. Justice Surya Kant responded that “no family member of any person should suffer” due to such allegations. He emphasized that the court doesn’t rely on media reports and extraneous information.
While the Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, maintained that investigations linked the drug money to Lashkar-e-Taiba, echoing newspaper reports, Talwar’s lawyers vehemently denied the existence of any evidence supporting this claim. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati assured the court that police would provide protection to the children if threats continued.
The case centers around a massive 2,988.21 kg heroin seizure at Mundra Port in September 2021, valued at ₹21,000 crore. Talwar, owner of popular Delhi clubs, was arrested in August 2022 in connection with this, the largest drug seizure in India. The NIA’s assertion linking the case to the Pahalgam terror attacks is a key point of contention. The Supreme Court’s intervention underscores the need to balance investigative processes with the protection of the rights and well-being of families involved.
